PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release:  February 26, 2019; 3:30 pm

(Stevensville, Montana) As Stevensville recovers from the season’s worst winter storm, Mayor Brandon Dewey thanks the community for coming together during this time and reminds residents and business owners to be prepared for more winter weather.  Based on recent forecasts, there is most likely more snow on its way. Another storm is moving into the area this evening and expected to dump additional snow on and off for the rest of the week.  Temperatures are forecasted to remain in the teens with wind chill factors at or below zero.

Residents should make sure they are ready for more snow, very low temperatures, strong winds and blowing snow.  It is important to monitor weather forecasts closely as predictions could change.  The additional weather is expected to continue to effect travel and road conditions.

The Town urges everyone to stay inside and if you do go out, go out for as little as possible, bundle up and take precautions, because it is bitterly cold and with the wind it is even worse.  Based on the weather so far this week, residents are advised to keep their family and pets safe through the storms, gather emergency supplies, stay informed about weather conditions and be prepared to stay indoors for a few more days.   Please check on your neighbors, especially those who are elderly, disabled or families with young children.

“We know this has been a long few days of snow and cold and a very frustrating wait for those still snowed in.  Unfortunately, we are seeing record snow fall, creating really tough conditions in terms of the impact of the snow” said Mayor Dewey.  “We are asking Stevensville residents and business owners to have a little bit of patience with the fact that despite the great work of the Public Works department, it’s going to be awhile before we see the roads again because we don’t expect to experience a lot of melting until we see some extended sunshine. We are working hard to keep the roads as safe as possible and will continue to clean up snow piles as time allows.  For businesses located on Main Street, we recognize the big berm of snow running down the center of the street is problematic for access to many businesses. Be assured that we will work with the State Department of Transportation to create breaks in the berm for vehicular access, until it can eventually be removed entirely.“
