The Stevensville Police Department is excited to collaborate with Stevensville Public Schools and the Stevensville Parks & Recreation Department for youth support services in the community. SPD C.A.R.E.S is a community and relationship-oriented program focused on providing educational and mentoring opportunities for youth in the Stevensville community. The program meets community needs by achieving goals for improving school safety and community service and resource programs.
This is a sworn law enforcement position with a strong emphasis on Community Policing, focused on youth crime prevention, organizational excellence, community engagement, and inclusion. Stevensville Police Officers work within the Town of Stevensville to preserve life, maintain human rights, protect property, and promote individual responsibility as well as community commitment. A Stevensville Police Officer functions and communicates effectively within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities and cultural backgrounds. Officers serve the community in many unique and rewarding ways.
This position will work a schedule consistent with the academic school year, while leading and participating in Stevensville Parks & Recreation programs during the summer months.
Current possession of POST certification from the State of Montana, or an equivalency, is highly desired for this position but not required to apply.

High School diploma or GED certificate is required.
Previous experience with youth centered programming and crime prevention is highly desired.
The incumbent should be comfortable developing and implementing curriculums focused on youth.
Meet and all requirements for employment as required by the State of Montana law and the Town of Stevensville.
Successfully pass a criminal history and driving record check and a credit check.
Ability to pass entry-level police written examination and MLEA physical and agility test
Successfully complete basic course at Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) or equivalent as designated by Public Safety Officer Standards & Training (POST) advisory council or as determined by the Chief of Police.
Must possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record at the time of hire or have the ability to obtain a valid Montana drivers license within six months of hire.

Salary: Those starting at entry level will be paid $20.89/hr. Lateral/experienced transfers will be compensated according to the established wages and compensation plan. Contact Human Resources for further information.

Health Insurance: The Town of Stevensville offers competitive and affordable insurance plans for employees, spouses, and dependents. There are 4 plans to chose from, and the Town covers the premium for the employees for the lowest cost plans (up to $642/mo). The employee contributes the cost difference of higher cost plans and their dependents pre-tax.
Vision/Dental: The Town contributes 1/2 the premium amount of the employee premium for dental and vision coverage. ($4.08/month vision, $16.50/month dental)
Life Insurance/AD&D: The Town offers low-cost life insurance and accident plans at the employee's cost, often pre-tax.
Standard uniform and equipment costs are covered by the department including replacement. In most cases, when residing locally, the department provides a take-home vehicle for official use.
