A long-standing tradition is again benefiting the students of Stevensville this summer, with a few additions that will ensure that everyone gets a chance at a fun summer activity. The Town of Stevensville has issued a single-use pool pass to K-6 students at Stevensville Elementary School for many years as a way to promote healthy summer activity and reward students for their academic success throughout the school year. This year, the program has been expanded to award a single-use swim pass to all students in grades K-12 for the Stevensville and Lone Rock School Districts.

“We realize that these are challenging times for the young people in our community,” said Mayor Brandon Dewey. “Stevensville’s students were quick to adapt to distance learning and took it in great stride as the end of their school year was something completely unexpected and disappointing to some. COVID-19 has undoubtedly changed the way that summer vacation looks for many, and the Town is excited to be part of an ongoing opportunity that engages our youth and rewards them.”

To receive your pass, simply visit the customer service window at Town Hall during business hours with a report card or other proof of enrollment. Students will then receive a pass that is redeemable at the Stevensville City Pool starting June 22, 2020. One pass will be issued to each student upon verification, and students that participate in homeschooling are invited to receive a pass as well.

While the Town prepares for a June 22 opening of the swimming pool, extra measures are being implemented in response to Phase II of Governor Bullock’s Reopening Plan. According to Parks & Recreation Director Bobby Sonsteng, the Town is taking extra precautions at its facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness. The Town is currently sanitizing playground equipment and public restrooms multiple times a day, and aquatics staff are being trained in enhanced sanitation procedures for swimming pool operations. “Our entire organization is committed to the safety and health of everyone who recreates at the Town’s open spaces and park facilities.” Said Sonsteng. “We’re looking forward to a summer of healthy activity and facilitating ways for our community to safely come together and enjoy the outdoors.”
